Pre-K Summer Transition Program

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning offers two types of Summer Transition Programs which operate during the months of June and July. Each program offers high-quality instruction with a focus on language, literacy and math and are designed to reduce the achievement gap.

  • Rising Pre-K – for students who are age eligible for Georgia’s Pre-K in the fall (4 years of age by September 1st) and whose home language is Spanish
  • Rising Kindergarten – for students who are age eligible for Kindergarten (5 years of age by September 1st) in the fall

DECAL does not require STP providers to offer extended day services; however, providers are required to work with families needing extended day services to ensure the needs of the family are met. Families may receive services through the Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program if they meet ALL eligibility requirements. For general STP CAPS questions, email caps.stp@decal.ga.gov

For families not already receiving CAPS, view the STP Family - How to Apply

  • After the family completes the application, the Transition Coach must obtain the following information from the parent:
    • Date of application submission
    • Tracking number

After a family has applied in Gateway, the Transition Coach can contact CAPS to inform them of the application submission or to inquire about the status of an application. The Transition Coach can view the How to Submit an Inquiry for CAPS.

If a family already has a CAPS case, the Transition Coach will instruct the family to submit a change request on the Georgia Gateway website (http://www.gateway.ga.gov) to add the eligible child(ren) enrolling in STP to their current CAPS case. The Transition Coach will notify CAPS by selecting “Contact Us” in the upper right-hand corner on the CAPS website (https://www.caps.decal.ga.gov) and completing the necessary fields including the Change Request tracking number. A CAPS Change Unit Specialist will contact the family to process the request. To Submit a Change Process, see How to Submit a Change Request.
