Professional Learning Community (PLC) Facilitator Institute

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are groups of early childhood professionals who come together regularly to explore the challenges and issues of working with young children and families. PLC members seek to improve their practice in ways that benefit young children. The Relationship-Based Professional Learning team offers in-depth training to early childhood educators interested in developing the knowledge and skills to facilitate PLCs.

The PLC Facilitator Institute

The PLC Facilitator Institute is an introductory training course on facilitating PLCs. In this training, participants establish a common understanding of a learning community and explore how elements of a PLC can be used to create powerful learning experiences. The course equips participants with tools and resources to begin implementing PLCs as a job-embedded professional learning strategy.

The PLC Facilitator Institute Includes:

  • Opportunities to practice facilitating protocols and/or community building activities
  • 6 days of face-to-face classroom instruction (3 consecutive days with a break for practice and then 3 consecutive days)
  • 3 virtual support sessions
  • A Learning Showcase (1 day of face-to-face training where participants present their learning)
  • Comprehensive training materials
  • 60 hours of DECAL-approved training hours upon successful completion

Participant Responsibilities:

  • Attend all training sessions (face-to-face and virtual)
  • Complete all assignments
  • Maintain cohort confidentiality
  • Cover personal expenses for meals, travel, and lodging (the course is offered at no charge)

Who Should Attend?

This training is ideal for early childhood teacher leaders, center directors, education managers, early childhood intervention specialists, technical assistance providers, trainers, coaches, curriculum specialists, transition coaches, family or community engagement coordinators, and other early education professionals.
