Help us celebrate Georgia Reads Aloud Day on April 13, 2011. This annual event is held during the Month of the Young Child and recognizes the impact of reading on children’s lives. Everyone can participate! We encourage all early care and learning providers, parents, and the entire community to make a special effort to read to children of all ages on this day. Downloadable book lists, book marks and a certificate for storytellers are available below in the Document List.

We are also keeping track of the number of books read to children, so be sure to log in your information on our Book Counter. It will be available throughout the month of April. Click here to enter the books you have read.

Month of the Young Child
Annually Georgia’s Governor proclaims April as the Month of the Young Child. The Month of the Young Child is based upon the Week of the Young Child, which is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), www.naeyc.org.

NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The Week of the Young Child is a time to plan how we - as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation - will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
